This is a quick and easy recipe for a cross between a tart and a pie. You have all the flavors of an apple pie with the crisp sweet addition of pears. And to save on the pie crusts, use a crumble topping instead.
Pear-Apple Crumble
Ingredients
- 4 small Granny Smith apples
- 4 small pears
- 2 tbsp flour or corn starch
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- 1/8 tsp cinnamon
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup oats, not instant
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/8 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup flour
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1/8 tsp cinnamon

Instructions
- Peel, core, and slice apples and pears into thin pieces.
- Add lemon, sugar, brown sugar, spout and cinnamon and mix well.
- Place all filling ingredients into prepared pie crust.
- Chop 2 tbsp of butter into small pieces and place al over the top of the filling.
- It it's easier to mix in a pastry blender but if you're in a hurry...
- Chop butter into small pieces.
- Add flour, oats, sugar, brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Incorporate butter into dry ingredients as much as possible. Press and mix until you get a crumbly-texture.
- Layer oat crumble on top of filling.
- Cover loosely with foil.
- Bake at 400 degrees for 45-50 minutes. Remove foil the last 15 minutes to crisp the crumble topping.
- Cool on a cooling rack.

1/2 of a lemon for a good squeeze over the fruit then mix all the other ingredients for the filling.
Mix the other ingredients for the filling an place in pie plate.
I believe the lemon is to keep the fruit from browning quickly , but I am not sure m
This sounds like a wonderful recipe. Does anybody know how much lemon to add? It’s not under the ingredient list but says to add it in the second step. Any idea?
